The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is one of the most beautiful species of birds in the world and also the largest species of the flamingo family. It is found in Africa, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and in southern Europe. Flamingos travel long distances to come to Sri Lankan coastal areas during their roosting season.
